Dallan's Surgery

On Tuesday, the 31st of March, Dallan had surgery for an inguinal hernia.  Needless to say, I am so glad it's over and that he's okay.  Here are some pictures of little Dally-bear's hospital experience....

How cute/sad is his little hospital gown and hat?

This is Dallan's right leg with his "tattoo" of the doctor's initials, ensuring that they didn't accidentally operate on his left side.

Dallan had his own little pre-op playroom, which was great because it kept him busy while we waited....

and waited....

...and waited.  See the clock in the background?  It reads 10:52 am.  We arrived at 8:00 am, and the surgery was supposed to start at 10:00 am.  There was a 2 hour delay when they found out that Dallan had been drinking juice that morning.  When the nurse called me to schedule the surgery, she told me not to feed him after 2:00 am, but that he could have juice or water.  She was wrong.  So at 11:40, they finally came to get Dal...

... and it was time to say goodbye.

45 minutes later, the doctor came out and told us that the surgery went well, and we got to go to the recovery room.  As soon as we walked through the doors we could hear Dallan crying down the hallway.  He was really groggy, sleeping and crying at the same time. The nurse was doing her best to comfort him, but all he needed was mommy (and a little demerol).

He slept for about a half hour, and then...

... woke up happy.  But as you can see, he wasn't quite as happy as mom!

Here we are, texting my family to let them know that Dallan was awake and just fine!  We got to go home just a few minutes later, where we all got some much needed sleep.  Dallan is still doing well, he slept all night and is very happy this morning.  Such a sweetie!

I can sympatize with you. Emma had to have an MRI wherE she was put under when she was less than a year. Your heart literally feels like its breaking when they take them away. I'm so glad everything is okay. We'll still keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Wow, you move ten miles away and suddenly you're out of the loop! I didn't know this was all going on in your life. Conner had the same surgery when he was little, and it was my first experience with a child going in for surgery. I don't care how routine they tell you it is, I will never feel okay about my kids having surgery. The best moment is when you see them again and know everything's okay. I hope things are going well for little Dallan.

By the way, thanks for tagging me! These are actually the first words I have typed on my computer in two weeks. (Two weeks ago, I would have thought this was impossible!) I plan on the tag being my first new post.

Hope you're having a good day!

Sarah, you have such a beautiful little boy. He is SO handsome. He looks like his Grandma Peggy to me--what a wonderful family you have. I'm glad everything went well- it is scary and so hard. Esp. when they cry and cry because they are hungry or thirsty and they don't understand why you don't give them a bottle or cup. (Max did that when Tom and Chanelle had tubes put in his ears)
