Friday in Chicago

My lovely daughter, Katy, and I went to Chicago last week. We went to see my sister and her girls, and to celebrate my niece's 7th birthday. We had the best time. I loved the city, it was amazing. I took almost 300 pictures in 3 days. Here are a few from day 1....

on the train, going into the city on Friday

my first shot in the city

my favorite picture from the trip, Katy & Kelly on the bus

first stop... American Girl Place on Michigan Ave. The girls picked out dolls that look just like them. This store is pretty much the Mecca for any girly-girl.

Lunch at the American Girl Cafe, a pink, sparkly, girl's dream come true. So much fun.

Atop the Hancock Building (100 stories tall). This is my 2nd tribute to Ferris Bueller (my first was naming my child Cameron).

the Bean is the coolest.

There were a handful of people napping in the park, so we joined them!

Cutest cousins.

After a long walk and a short bus ride (the girls' feet were getting tired), down Michigan Ave., we FINALLY got to the place I was most looking forward to... The Art Institute of Chicago. It was everything I imagined and more. Okay, get ready for lots of pictures that don't do the art justice...

Renoir, On the Terrace

Degas, the Star

This was one of my favorites, it was so beautiful. The Captive Slave by John Philip Simpson

I didn't know the Art Institute had so many Van Gogh's in their collection. I was so excited to find this self portrait, and this....

The Bedroom

Seurat, A Sunday on La Grande Jatte

A few Monet's... Water Lilies

Stacks of Wheat

Manet's Jesus Mocked by the Soldiers

part of the new modern wing at the Art Institute

We finished of the day with a deep dish pie at Giordano's. I really wish I had one of those right now.

My sweet little niece, Abby, covered in tomato sauce. Such a great day!

Uhoh. We came this close ::holding my finger and thumb a half inch apart:: to going to Chicago this summer. I hope we don't have any regrets for switching to different place, cuz that looks awesome.
